The Opportunity

Role Purpose:

Save the Children’s 2022-24 Global Strategy is about disrupting the negative trend and challenging the status quo to accelerate and amplify impact with children. We must think and act differently, together with children and partners, to protect their rights now and for future generations. Strengthening the technical expertise in our implementing offices is a key enabler to collaborate with and shift power to children, communities and local partners.

As a result, Save the Children has recently completed a 5-year transformation programme to strengthen the technical expertise capacity and capability in Save the Children International’s 51 implementing offices, leading to a ~40% increase in the number of senior technical experts working closer to children. This was enabled by an investment of approximately $10m every year since 2019, as well as improved attraction, retention, professional development and financial management of high calibre technical experts in each office.

This role will be key in ensuring that the benefits from this investment is sustained. This will require strong leadership engagement across Save the Children to maintain the culture and behaviour change and ensure implementing offices have access to best practice tools, guidance and processes to sustain and maximise the impact of their technical quality.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:



  • Demonstrated experience and capability in influencing and leading change
  • Experience and understanding of how Save the Children operate
  • Experience working in complex stakeholder landscape and mediating conflict
  • Experience partnering with support functions (e.g. finance, HR)
  • Experience in driving behavioural and culture change
  • Excellent business partnering, communication and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to prepare compelling engagement content for senior stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage productive relationships with senior staff
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative
  • Team player, with a full appreciation of the value of collaboration
  • Commitment to the mission, vision and values of Save the Children.


  • Fluency in additional SCI language (French, Arabic or Spanish)
  • Familiarity with development and humanitarian programming
  • Senior leadership and management experience in a large and complex international NGO or organisation

We can offer circa £50,000 per annum (If based in the UK) with an option of flexible working hours. If the role is based outside of the UK, National Terms & Conditions (including pay / salary and benefits) will apply.

This role can be based in the UK (London or Remote) or any existing Save the Children International Regional or Country office location on approval, provided the successful candidate has proof of eligibility to work from the preferred location for the duration of the contract.
